Yigit Altay was born in Ankara, Turkey, in 1988. He has started to make Turkish Republic Coins Collection in February 2004 and has got the ancient coins collector license from Turkish Republic Ankara Independence War and Republic Museum. With this license, he became the youngest ancient coin collector who has the license in Turkey.

 

He received his BSc (magna cum laude) in 2011 from Bilkent University. He obtained his MSc in 2013 from same university, He joined Prof. Sijbren Otto`s group in Groningen in September 2013 to pursue his PhD. For more information you can visit yigitaltay.com

A special section with a dedicated sub-domain is added for Ilkhan coinage (ilkhans.altaycoins.com)

All the sections are removed and website is redesigned and dedicated for Ilkhan coins.

World coins section is removed. As I no longer collect world coins, I decided to remove it. Main focus will be on Ottoman, Seljuk of Rum, Beylik coins and of course Ilkhan coinage.

Website is online again! It is uploaded with a backup from 2011. Some of the data lost but no major loss. I decided to spend more time on this website to increase its visibility.

It has been two years since I did not add a single coin to the website. So the website goes offline.

My website is online! It is designed by me and coded by Ayhan Yaşar from Zenar Tasarım. It contains around 100 coins from ancient and medieval coins of Anatolia. In the world coins section there is about 2000 coins listed.

I got a coin collection licence to collect ancient and medieval coins in Turkey.

I bought few Turkish Republic and two nickel Ottoman coins. Thus, I literally started collecting coins.

January, 1998

As the 500 Lira went out of circulation. I gathered all the denominations and put it aside. This is the point where I have developed an interest in coin collecting.
